AIMS Museo Maritimo celebrated its 13th anniversary on October 11, 2025, marking over a decade of dedication to preserving and sharing the rich history of the maritime world. This milestone was not only an opportunity to reflect on the museum's journey but also a moment to highlight our continued commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
To commemorate this special occasion, the museum officially launched its Accessibility and Inclusivity Program, a transformative initiative designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, could fully engage with and enjoy our exhibits. The program, which has now concluded, featured three key components:
Digital Voices: This audio guide system provided accessible narration for visitors with visual impairments, allowing them to experience the museum’s exhibits through detailed and engaging digital descriptions.
Mental Health Booklets: These specially crafted booklets offered visitors calming activities and mindfulness exercises, promoting mental well-being and providing an opportunity to reflect on the exhibits in a peaceful and restorative way.
Sensory Kits: Aimed at visitors with sensory sensitivities, these kits included tools to enhance the museum experience, ensuring a more comfortable and inclusive visit.

We are proud to say that these components successfully contributed to making the museum a more inclusive space, allowing all visitors to explore and connect with the exhibits in a way that suits their needs.
AIMS Community Joins the Celebration
In addition to the program launch, the 13th anniversary was a time for the AIMS community, including faculty and students, to come together and celebrate. Members of the community participated in the museum’s gamified tour, an interactive and fun way to explore the exhibits while testing their knowledge through challenges and activities.
Open Museum Day: A Global Celebration
The museum’s anniversary also coincided with Open Museum Day on October 11, 2025, an event that attracted a diverse crowd of visitors, both local and international. The day was filled with enthusiasm as guests took part in guided tours, educational activities, and explored the museum’s interactive exhibits. The success of the event highlighted the museum’s growing appeal and its role as an important cultural hub in both the local and international communities.
Reflecting on the Journey and Looking Forward
As we look back on the success of our 13th anniversary celebration and the accessibility program, we are filled with gratitude for the support we’ve received from the AIMS community, our visitors, and our partners. Though the program has concluded, our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility will continue to guide our work in the years ahead.
We look forward to another decades of enriching experiences, educational opportunities, and a continued dedication to making AIMS Museo Maritimo a welcoming space for all.
