Some stories take us to faraway places. Some stories remind us of where we come from. And then some stories invite us to pause, look toward the horizon, and remember the connections that bind us together.

This October, AIMS Museo Maritimo invites young readers to embark on such a journey with the release of its newest digital publication, Banuk at Agon.

A Friendship Shaped by the Sea

Written for young readers, Banuk at Agon tells the story of an enduring friendship shaped by the sea. Through the journey of Banuk and Agon, readers are invited to discover the sea not simply as a vast expanse of water, but as a place where friendships are formed, journeys begin, and stories unfold.

Behind the story is a deeper reflection on the importance of our oceans and the maritime industry. As an archipelagic nation, the sea is woven into our everyday lives—connecting communities, sustaining livelihoods, and shaping our history and heritage. Yet, amid the rhythm of daily life, these connections can sometimes go unnoticed.

Through Banuk at Agon, we hope to encourage young readers to pause, wonder, and see the sea in a new way.

A Story for a Month of Celebration

The release of Banuk at Agon is especially meaningful as AIMS Museo Maritimo celebrates several important occasions this October.

On October 5, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, honoring the teachers who nurture curiosity, inspire learning, and help young minds discover the world around them.

Throughout October, we also celebrate Museums and Galleries Month, recognizing museums as spaces where stories, memories, knowledge, and heritage are preserved and shared with generations to come.

And on October 11, AIMS Museo Maritimo celebrates its 14th founding anniversary—fourteen years of connecting people with our maritime heritage and creating opportunities to learn about the sea and its enduring place in our lives.

Together, these celebrations remind us of the power of stories and the people who help bring them to life. Teachers open doors to discovery. Museums preserve the stories behind what we see. And books give those stories new journeys and new readers.

Meet Banuk and Agon

Banuk at Agon was written by Akira Ariate, an intern at AIMS Museo Maritimo.

Through this publication, Akira brings young readers into a story of friendship while offering an invitation to discover the significance of the sea and the maritime world around us.

Perhaps, as readers follow Banuk and Agon’s journey, they may also begin to see their own connection to the sea — whether through the places they live, the people they meet, the stories they hear, or the heritage they share.

Because every journey begins with a story.

And sometimes, all it takes is turning the first page.

⚓ Come Read, Discover, and Sail Along

We invite you to discover Banuk at Agon and share it with the young readers, teachers, families, and friends in your life.
