In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month this October, with the national theme “Resilient Museums and Galleries: Educating for Preparedness and Recovery,” and in observance of World Mental Health Day this October 10 and the 13th Anniversary of AIMS Museo Maritimo on October 11, we are pleased to announce the launch of our Accessibility and Inclusivity Program.
This initiative affirms our commitment to making AIMS Museo Marítimo a resilient, inclusive, and welcoming space for all. True resilience lies not only in preserving heritage but in ensuring that our cultural spaces are accessible to every member of the community—especially those with different abilities, needs, and experiences. The program is built upon three foundational pillars:
1. Digital Voices: Narrated museum content is now available on our official website, enabling individuals with visual impairments to explore and experience our exhibits through audio format. This initiative promotes digital accessibility and ensures that our educational mission reaches beyond physical walls. [Click Here]
2. Inclusivity Booklet: A new series of awareness booklets on neurodiversity—including autism and ADHD—is now accessible online. These resources aim to promote understanding, empathy, and awareness among museum staff, educators, and visitors, aligning with the call for educational preparedness within our theme. [Click Here]
3. Sensory Kits: We are pleased to share to be the first museum in the country to integrate sensory kits into the visitor experience. These kits are designed to support guests with sensory processing needs—particularly children with autism or sensory sensitivities—by reducing sensory overload and providing a more comfortable, engaging, and inclusive environment. These will be available alongside our existing guided and gamified tours. [Click Here]
By launching this program, AIMS Museo Marítimo continues to lead by example in advancing inclusivity, wellness, and education in the museum sector. These efforts are essential in building community resilience, supporting mental health, and preparing inclusive spaces for future generations.
We thank you for your continued support and collaboration in ensuring that our museum remains a safe, accessible, and empowering place for all.
