Museums Uniting a Divided World Through Maritime Heritage

⚓🌊 Different tides may carry us in different directions, but museums remind us that our stories are all connected.

This May, AIMS Museo Maritimo proudly joins the global celebration of International Museum Day 2026 and National Heritage Month with a special Open Museum Day happening on May 16 and May 23, 2026.

Inspired by this year’s International Museum Day theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” the museum invites students, educators, maritime enthusiasts, researchers, and families to come together in a shared journey through Philippine maritime history and heritage.

Sail Through Stories That Connect Us

For centuries, the sea has shaped the identity of the Filipino people — connecting islands, cultures, communities, and generations. At AIMS Museo Maritimo, every artifact, photograph, map, and story reflects the enduring relationship between the nation and the sea.

During the Open Museum Day celebration, visitors will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the museum’s maritime heritage collections

  • Discover stories of Filipino seafarers, navigation, and trade

  • Learn how maritime history continues to shape the Philippines today

  • Experience meaningful conversations about culture, identity, and shared heritage

More than an exhibition, the event serves as a reminder that museums are spaces where people can reflect, connect, and better understand one another despite differences in background, culture, or perspective.

As part of the celebration, AIMS Museo Maritimo will also officially launch the third volume of Aguhon: A Philippine Maritime History Journal through an online release.

The journal continues its mission of promoting research, scholarship, and dialogue on Philippine maritime history, culture, and heritage. Volume 3 brings together new perspectives and studies that contribute to the growing appreciation of the country’s maritime legacy.

Researchers, students, historians, and readers passionate about heritage and the sea are encouraged to explore this newest publication.
