As part of our ongoing effort to foster experiential learning and create a more participatory environment, AIMS Museo Maritimo is pleased to announce the completion of our 2025 Internship Program. This initiative is an important step in our goal to engage with the community and contribute to the development of students pursuing careers in history, research, and museum studies.
The interns from the Department of History at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) have completed several deliverables that will contribute to the museum's ongoing educational efforts. Their work has helped support the needs of our faculty while contributing to our mission to engage students and visitors through research, storytelling, and hands-on experiences.
Key Deliverables:
Research and Publication: The interns conducted research that will be included in a publication set for release in October 2025. This work adds to the academic and public resources that the museum offers.
Exhibition Design: The interns designed modular exhibits that will be displayed in acrylic boxes and made available for faculty to borrow, aiding in the integration of museum resources into classroom settings.
Educational Module: In conjunction with the exhibits, the interns developed an educational module that provides guidance on how to effectively use the exhibits in teaching.
Promotional and Educational Newsletter: The interns contributed to the creation of a newsletter designed to inform the museum's audience about new initiatives, including the exhibits developed during the program.
Grant Management System Leads: The interns assisted with updates to the museum's grant management system, which will be useful for future grant applications and management.
Alongside these projects, the interns also took part in a variety of museum activities, such as leading tours, facilitating library services, and assisting with collection cleaning. They also participated in off-campus activities and online seminars relevant to the field of museum studies.

A Participatory Approach:
A central goal of the internship was to create research-driven exhibits that would be useful to our faculty. This is part of the museum's broader objective to serve as a participatory space where faculty and students can engage with history in an interactive and hands-on way. We aim for the museum to complement traditional learning by offering a dynamic, experiential approach to education.
Our collaboration with the PUP Department of History has played an important role in helping us move closer to this goal. By providing opportunities for students to work directly with our exhibits and contribute to meaningful projects, we are able to expand the museum's role as a learning resource for the entire academic community.
Acknowledgments:
We would like to express our gratitude to Ms. Sherrenne De Amboy, Chairperson of the PUP Department of History, and Mr. Gregorio R. Caliguia III, OJT Coordinator and a faculty of the PUP Department of History for supporting this partnership and for providing us with dedicated interns. Their efforts have contributed to the museum’s educational activities, and we look forward to potential future collaborations.
We also thank the interns for their contributions. Their work has added value to the museum, and we appreciate their commitment throughout the program.
We look forward to seeing how the work completed during the internship will continue to support the learning experiences of our faculty, students, and visitors in the years to come.
